Driving Toward Independence: Tawhare Receives Her First Car

Less than 1% of young adults who age out of foster care own a car—and without reliable transportation, accessing education, employment, and opportunity becomes incredibly difficult. That’s why this moment with Tawhare, a 20-year-old who transitioned out of foster care, is so meaningful. Through the collaboration of Madi’s Movement and Wheels of Success, and with generous support from the Lazydays Employee Foundation, Tawhare received her very first vehicle: an Infiniti G25.

This wasn’t just a car—it was a milestone in her journey toward independence. The keys symbolized more than just mobility; they unlocked access to a stable future filled with possibility.

I’m thankful to Madi’s Movement and Wheels of Success for making this day—and this ride—possible,” Tawhare shared. With this new freedom, she now has the ability to pursue work, education, and the goals she’s set for herself—one mile at a time.
